UE Warriors protest shock loss to Archers

- Joey Villar -
University of the East yesterday protested its 83-86 overtime loss to La Salle last Thursday, claiming table officials erred when they reset the time from 0.1 to 1.8 seconds in regulation of the contest at the Blue Eagle gym.

The Warriors, leading at 74-72, asserted that the Archers didn’t call a time- out during that stretch, thus the clock shouldn’t have been reset. La Salle was given enough time to score underneath that forced the overtime.

"We’ll verify it when we meet tomorrow (today)," said Ateneo’s Ricky Palou, who chairs the league’s technical group.

Expected to attend the 1 p.m. meeting are Palou, Adamson’s Ric Matibag, UST’s Fr. Ermito de Sagon, OP, and UP’s Kiko Diaz, UE’s Bren Perez and La Salle’s Ramoncito Campos.

In another development, the UAAP yesterday suspended Adamson coach Mel Alas, his assistant Ronnie Cahanding and player Roel Hugnatan for their misconduct in their loss to University of the Philippines Thursday.

Meanwhile, Khristine Marie Prado had 19 points and 14 rebounds as De La Salle poured it all in the fourth quarter to stun defending champion Adamson U, 62-57, in UAAP Season 68 women’s basketball action Thursday at the Adamson gym in San Marcelino.

University of the Philippines also scored the day’s other stunner, beating national students champion Ateneo, 50-43. Sihaya Sadorra made 12 points and Joan Flor Roma 11 for the Lady Maroons. University of Santo Tomas, behind the 17 points each of Risha Ann Vargas and Nerissa Noscal, handily beat University of the East, 78-60.
