PBF elections today

The Philippine Basketball Federation, formed to replace expelled Basketball Association of the Philippines, holds elections today, with Cebu Representative Eduardo Gullas emerging as the lone presidential candidate following the withdrawal of Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines president Chito Narvasa.

And a day after Narvasa said he’s not interested in the presidency, Chino Trinidad also begged off from handling any position, particularly that of secretary-general.

Narvasa was considered a strong candidate for the PBF presidency. But he said the other day he’s "not interested" in the post.

Trinidad has followed suit.

"Hindi naman ako bantay-salakay,"
said the Philippine Basketball League commissioner, who was one of the staunchest critics of the BAP. "Ako pa ba ang uupo ngayon diyan?"

Trinidad explained that the post of secretary-general requires a lot of time and as PBL commissioner, he might not be able to give his 100 percent.

"Working position yan. It’s not that I cannot handle the job but there may be other persons who fit the job," he said.

Trinidad said Moying Martelino, an old, trusted hand in basketball, should be the wiser choice. Martelino has a vast experience in him, being the former secretary-general of the Asian Basketball Confederation.

Meanwhile, Bong Ramos has accepted the job assistant coach of Talk N Text in the PBA barely a week after he stepped down as head coach of FedEx. He will now serve under head coach Joel Banal.
