Top favorite Pechanga came out of the starting gate a bit slow but made a big move heading into the homestretch to rule the PCSO Special Maiden Race before a huge crowd at the Santa Ana Park yesterday.
Responding on the urging of jockey Antonio Alcasid Jr., the two-year-old chestnut filly surged to the lead entering the last 400-meter mark and kept her searing charge to the finish for a two-length win over the Jesse Guce-ridden Jet Sutter.
Pechanga won for owner Ed Mailom the top purse of P300,000 in the race spread over 900 meters. Pechaga clocked 54.6 with quarter times of 06-22-26.
Farenheit finished third then Speed Highness and Quickie. Ramon Romualdez
