Seigles among 34 free agents in post season

- Joey Villar, Nelson Beltran -
Brothers Danny and Andy Seigle were among 34 players who became free agents in the Philippine Basketball Association Saturday.

Jerry Codiñera and two others had their contracts expired earlier last June 30, and 33 other players will have their own pacts lapsing between July 31 and Dec. 31.

Thus, the front offices of the 10 ball clubs are likely to hum with several wheeling and dealings this PBA break.

Aside from the Seigle brothers, other players whose contracts expired Saturday were Ginebra’s Egay Echavez, Marlon Basco, Aris Dimaunahan, Estong Ballesteros, Bal David, Rodney Santos, Banjo Calpito and James Wallkvist, San Miguel’s Rysal Castro, Francis Adriano, Anton Villoria, Joey Mente, Arnold Gamboa and Gilbert Malabanan, Purefoods’ Tonyboy Espinosa and Gilbert Demape, Red Bull’s Jimwell Torion and Bryan Gahol, Alaska’s Noli Locsin, Rob Johnson, Eugene Tejada, Rob Duat and Bong Hawkins, Coca-Cola’s Poch Juinio, Jeck Chia, Gilbert Lao, Leo Avenido and Manny Ramos, Shell’s Marlon Legaspi, Celino Cruz, Kalani Ferreria, Rensy Bajar and Carlo Sharma, Sta. Lucia’s Joseph Gumatay, and Talk n Text’s Niño Gelig and Don Camaso.

Dennis Madrid ends his short deal with Purefoods on Aug. 20 and Peter June Simon and Richard Yee also with Purefoods on Sept. 30, the same date Gary David ends his pact with FedEx and William Antonio and Rafi Reavis with Coca-Cola.

Ryan Bernardo sees the end of his deal with Red Bull on Oct. 31. At the end of the year, several key players need to re-negotiate and these include Alaska’s Mike Cortez and Brandon Cablay, Purefoods’ Noy Castillo, San Miguel’s Olsen Racela, Sta. Lucia’s Marlou Aquino and Talk n Text’s Jimmy Alapag.

Others becoming free agent on Dec. 31 are Alaska’s Stephen Padilla, San Miguel’s Frederick Canlas, Ginebra’s Sunday Salvacion, Purefoods’ Mike Hrabak and Eddie Laure, Red Bull’s Topex Robinson, Junthy Valenzuela, Lordy Tugade and Cyrus Baguio, Shell’s Adonis Sta. Maria, Jun Marzan, Roger Yap, Ronald Tubid, Christian Calaguio and Billy Mamaril, Sta. Lucia’s Paolo Mendoza, and Talk n Text’s Harvey Carey and Bong Ravena.

Enrico Villanueva’s own previous contract is actually expiring on Dec. 31 but he’s been re-signed to a new pact early this year.

At Shell, only Rich Alvarez, Tony dela Cruz and Ervin Sotto will remain with live contracts after Dec. 31. The Turbochargers have been told to wait for notice while the team’s London-based mother company is still evaluating the viability of maintaining its PBA franchise.
