Jakarta Games gold medalist and Vietnam Games double-silver medal winner Marciano Basas has been dropped from the Philippine wrestling team for the Southeast Asian Games the country is hosting late this year for lack of discipline.
This was bared by Wrestling Association of the Philippines secretary-general Jet Lozada who added John Esteban was tapped to replace Basas.
Wrestling officials said Basas, a gold medal prospect in the coming SEAG, has seemed to lose focus in training.
Basas narrowly missed the gold medals in the Greco-Roman and freestyle events in Vietnam two years ago.
Basas lost his slot in the team as the national wrestlers are about to leave for a three-month training in Ulang Bator, Mongolia.
A total of 17 gold medals will be disputed in wrestling in the coming SEAG. Nelson Beltran
