La Salle goes for 6th straight win vs Lyceum

Unbeaten La Salle takes on winless Lyceum in what could be another stroll for the Lady Archers even as University of Santo Tomas tries to recover lost grounds against lowly but unpredictable Far Eastern U in the 2005 Shakey’s V-League first conference at the Rizal Coliseum.

The Lady Archers swept the first round in convincing fashion, beating a surging San Sebastian College in straight sets and reasserting their supremacy over the Tigresses, 25-22, 25-19, 25-20, to serve notice of their bid for a back-to-back title romp after winning the second conference crown early this year.

Against UST, winner of the inaugural staging of this event sponsored by Shakey’s Pizza, 2004 second conference MVP Michelle Carolino came through with 16 hits, including 13 on attacks, while skipper Michelle Penetrante and comely Manilla Santos added 13 and 11 points, respectively, for La Salle.

Against Lyceum, which lost all its games in the first round for a woeful 0-6 card, La Salle is expected to encounter little resistance as it guns for win No. 6 in the event backed by Accel, Mikasa, IBC 13 and Jemah television. Gametime is at 3 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Tigresses tangle with the Tams at 5 p.m., raring to redeem themselves from a so-so campaign in the first round that saw them lose three games and win just two.

But the Tams are also itching to bounce back from a1-4 (win-loss) start and a victory over the slumping Tigresses could boost not only their confidence but their bid as well.

Highlights of the matches will be shown tomorrow on IBC-13 starting at 7 p.m.
