Django rules Indon tourney

Francisco "Django" Bustamante showed grace under pressure to edge Mika Immonen of Finland, 11-10, and rule the A Mild International Open at Paradiso Bowling and Billiard Center in the charming resort of Bali, Indonesia.

With the victory, the former world No. 1 earned a total of $12,500 in prize money and appearance fee in the tournament participated in by the top Asian cue artists and some of the world’s best.

But Immonen made sure the Filipino had to earn every penny of it. Trailing for most part of the match, Immonen staged a late comeback and caught Bustamante at the hill, 10-10. Breaking for the match, Immonen pocketed two balls and left the red three hanging near the pocket. But the player known around the world pool circuit as the "Iceman" melted after a bad preparation on No. 4.

Bustamante opted for a safety shot, which proved to be brilliant as Immonen blundered on his turn to leave an easy clean-up.

Earlier, Bustamante waylaid Vietnamese upstart Luong Chi Dung, 9-2, and Immonen routed Chu Hung Ming of Chinese Taipei, 9-1, in separate semifinal duels.

Bustamante’s semifinal opponent was the same player who eliminated his compatriots Efren "Bata" Reyes and Lee Van Corteza in the earlier rounds.
