Montaña, Granny gun for win No. 2
April 7, 2005 | 12:00am
Montaña Pawnshop and Granny Goose Kornets go for their second straight wins today when they go up against separate rivals in the 2005 PBL Unity Cup at the Makati Coliseum.
The Jewels, gunning for their second straight title after ruling the PBL Open Championship last February for their first-ever crown, clash with the Bacchus Energy Kings at 2 p.m. while the Snackmasters collide with the fancied Harbour Port Masters at 4 p.m.
Both the Jewels and Snackmasters are hoping to sustain their fiery starts after downing their respective rivals in the opening last Saturday. They are currently locked in a four-way tie with Toyota Otis-Letran and Welcoat Paints who scored contrasting wins over their rivals two days back.
Despite the injury suffered by forward Al Magpayo in the game, the Jewels went on to win over the Port Masters in overtime, 81-75.
The 6-foot-5 Magpayo, who has a deadly touch from beyond the arc, will be out for the rest of the season after breaking an arm.
