Granny Goose banked heavily on the exploits of Ardy Larong as the Snack Masters upset the Welcoat Paint Masters, 70-58, to gain a share of the lead in the PBL open championship at the La Salle Green Hills gym in San Juan yesterday.
The General Milling Corporation-owned franchise settled the issue with still some five minutes left in the match.
With the score tied at 50-all, Larong scored 10 of his team-high 14 points in a decisive 9-0 run as the Snack Masters took the lead to stay, 59-50.
In that crucial stretch, Larong scored seven straight points.
Granny Goose tied idle Montana Pawnshop in the lead with identical 4-1 win-loss cards while Welcoat slid to 3-2.
"I told my players that although Welcoat has the height, alam ko na mas malaki naman ang puso ng team namin," said Granny Goose coach Jun Tan.
"Hindi ko ini-expect na ganito ang ipapakita ng team. Pero sa ginagawang maganda ng mga players ko, deserving naman sila na nasa itaas kami ngayon," he added.
In the second, Magnolia outplayed ICTSI-La Salle, 85-55, to even its record to 3-3.
