UE bets advance in Del Monte badminton

University of the East bets Heidenberg Dimarucut and Rodil Sertan scored similar easy wins yesterday to reach the men’s singles round-of-16 in the Del Monte 202 Cup First Philippine Collegiate Badminton Open at The Zone in Malugay, Makati.

Dimarucut demolished TIP’s Margil De Asas, 15-1, 15-1, to advance against FEU’s Jimson Dionisio, a 15-6, 15-3 winner over Zefanio Membrere.

Sertan, on the other hand, scored a 15-2, 15-1 victory over PSBA’s Frederick Importado to advance against NEUST’s Ronald Arma, who beat Lyceum’s Alexie Gonzalo, 15-3, 15-1.

Other winners were UST’s Reynaldo Selga, Adamson’s Ronald Magallanes, Ramil Magallanes and Darwin de Roxas, La Salle’s Rodel Dawan and Rhaul Angeles, NEUST’s Alfredo Angeles and Raymond Vega, FEU’s Wilson Frias, Perpetual’s Hendra Tan, TUP’s Marlon Escueta and TIP’s Edison Serrano.

In the ladies singles, UP’s Ronielle Kagalingan downed St.Scholastica’s Jennylyn Vicencio, 11-6, 11-8, and Lyceum’s Mary Saavedra clobbered TIP’s Rachelle Villareal, 11-2, 11-2, to earn second-round berths.

Also advancing were UST’s Kathleen Anasco and Rose Ann dela Cruz, La Salle’s Michelle Guerrero and Therine Chan, FEU’s Mary Ann Sebastian and Criselda Sarabia, UE’s Jane de Jesus, UP’s Liza Sormillo, Sacred Heart’s Jolywin Rodil and Kathlyn Glindro, Sienna’s Julie Anne Zuniga, JRU’s Gennesis dela Cruz and WCC’s Adeline Pardo.

In the men’s doubles, FEU’s Jimson Dionisio and Wilmer Frias outplayed La Salle’s Matthew Romualdez and Ricky Cajefe, 15-9, 15-7, and UE’s RJ Cruz and Edison Cupcupin downed UP’s Allan Carl Cardenas and Martin Paul Castrodes, 15-7, 15-12, to enter the quarterfinals. Other winners were La Salle’s Rhaul Angeles and Michael Paclibar, TIP’s Marlon Dalisay and Edison Serrano, UP’s Marvin Cumbre and Poppert Bernadas, Adamson’s Darwin Roxas and Darius Bueno, FEU’s Jayser Frias and Recson Salvaleon and NEUST’s Rabdy Felipe and Raymond Vega.

Quarterfinalists in the ladies doubles were UST’s Kathleen Anasco and Lyka Leonor, UP’s Sarah and Sheryl Caraig, UE’s Rusell Tatel and Karen Escalona, and Carroll Capiral and Hazel Ann Andres, Sacred Heart’s Jolywin Rodil and Kathleen Glindro, FEU’s Criselda Sarabia and Ma. Theresa Sebastian, La Salle’s Therine and Paula Chan, and St. Scholastica’s Jennelyn Vicencio and Mary Ann Catalan.
