Beauty and brawn will again be the eclectic, mix when the third leg of the 2004 Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball Tournament unfolds at the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority beach volley sand-courts near the Boardwalk Sept. 24-25.
Twenty lovely ladies, divided into 10 teams, will pit their skills in the battle for honors and cash prizes in the two-day event organized by Voltz Management Group headed by Tisha Abundo.
The third leg of the Petron tournament, one of the most-anticipated beach volleyball competitions in the country today, is expected to draw another motley group of volleybelles, who are not only stunningly attractive but are physically able as well.
"What we have in our cast are women, who are not only skillful, but are pleasing to the eyes. Their looks and skills make them stars in their own right," said Abundo, a former commissioner of the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
Abundo also took her time out to thank the SBMA, headed by its chairman Felicito "Tong" Payumo, for providing the venue to the two-day volleyball festival.
"We are excited to be holding the third leg of the Petron series right at the heart of Subic Bay. Chaiman Payumo has been very supportive of the coming tournament because he realizes the value of sports both in nation-building and as a tourism vehicle," said Abundo.
The second leg of the tournament had the veteran Philippine Navy pair of Helen Dosdos and Johanna Carpio emerging triumphant over the youthful tandem of University of the Philippines Karla San Diego and partner Jackie Ann Monteferio.
Abundo said that the fourth and final leg of the Petron volleyfest will feature all of the past winners in a grand national championship that will determine the countrys best beach volley players.
"That should be the ultimate prize to covet for, which makes our third leg all the more exciting considering that the winners will get automatic berths to the finals in December," Abundo ended.
