RTU, Miriam, DLSZ pace WNCAA caging

Rizal Technological University, Miriam College and De La Salle Zobel held on to the leadership of their respective divisions over the weekend in the WNCAA 35th season basketball tournament at the St. Scholastica’s College gym.

RTU scored back-to-back wins — over St. Scho on Saturday, 40-27, and against Siena College of Quezon City yesterday, 67-36 — to pace the seniors level with a 6-0 card.

Rhodora Sacamay and Jacqueline Abacial led the Lady Technocrats charge yesterday, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Miriam leaned on the 19 points of Jennifer Dimaano to pull off a 49-40 victory over St. Scho yesterday and a 4-0 record in the midgets division.

DLSZ equalled Saturday the 4-0 card of host school San Beda College Alabang after stopping Angelicum College, 89-44.

The WNCAA 35th season is co-presented by Kotex and sponsored by adidas, The Philippine Star, RPN 9, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Pantene and Café Lupe, in cooperation with Cadbury, Goldilocks, Powerade, Molten, Mikasa and Rustan’s Essenses.

Also on Saturday, St. Scho dealt Miriam its first loss in the juniors level with a 90-61 decision that leveled their slates at 3-1, good for second place behind DLSZ.

St. Stephen’s High School moved up to third spot at 3-2 when it downed La Salle College Antipolo, 58-33.
