Defending champion Lyceum of the Philippines inched closer to the number one spot yesterday when it crushed archrival College of St. Benilde, 25-20, 25-14, 25-14, in the WNCAA 35th season at the RTU gym.
The Lady Pirates were unforgiving in dealing the Lady Blazers their third loss in eight matches, not yielding a set in the lopsided game to post a 6-0 slate.
University of the Assumption-Pampanga, which leads the league with a 7-0 card, is still playing Emilio Aguinaldo College as of press time.
The WNCAA 35th season is co-presented by Kotex and sponsored by adidas, The Philippine Star, RPN 9, Monster Radio RX 93.1, Pantene and Café Lupe, in cooperation with Cadbury, Goldilocks, Powerade, Molten, Mikasa and Rustans Essenses.
In the opening game, Rizal Technological University pounded Miriam College, 25-12, 25-23, 25-8, to improve to 6-1 and remain in third place. Miriam dropped to 2-4.
