La Salle stamped its class over Olivarez College to book a second straight victory in the Universities and Colleges Athletics Association (UCAA) womens volleyball tournament yesterday at the EAC Sports Center.
The Lady Archers meet a strong resistance from Olivarezs volleybelles, but showed grace and poise down the stretch in posting a 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, 29-27 win completed in 1 hour and 44 minutes of play.
La Salle failed to score a twinkill as the Olivarez Sea Lions easily disposed off the Archers in straight sets in the mens side of the event backed by New Balance shoes, Arena swimwear, Accel, Villa de Oro Resorts Boracay, Shakeys Pizza, Mikasa and Molten balls. Olivarez punished La Salle with solid kills off the net en route to a 25-13, 25-14, 25-12 win in just 48 minutes.
"My players are in good condition, just like they were last Friday. Target namin na makalusot sa quarterfinals and semis," said Sea Lions coach Robert Garcia.
"Gusto naming ibalik ang first season na kami ang kalahok sa championship and with the big help of my players Edison Arcullo, Rigo Serquillos and Olivero Miranda. "Makakaya namin ito."
In the other mens game, San Lorenzo beat La Salle-Dasmarinas, 25-20, 25-21, 25-9.
Meantime, basketball action resumes today at the EAC basketball gym, with opening day winners Philippine School of Business Administration-QC and host Emilio Aguinaldo College gunning for a second straight win and a piece of the top spot.
The Jaguars and the Generals take on each other in the 9 a.m. curtain raiser, while Colegio de San Lorenzo meets La Salle-Dasmarinas at 10:30 a.m.
National College of Business and Arts plays defending champion St. Francis at 1 p.m., before La Salle-Manila and Olivarez capped the days four-game bill with their 2:30 p.m. match.
