Eagles attempt to stay unbeaten against Warriors

Ateneo hopes to stretch its early run in the UAAP basketball tournament to three games as it takes on University of the East even as University of Santo Tomas guns for its second win in three starts against winless University of the Philippines at resumption of action today at the Araneta Coliseum.

Bidding to achieve what erstwhile unbeaten defending champion Far Eastern U to keep a clean slate, the Eagles are heavily favored over the Warriors in their 4 p.m. encounter.

Unbeaten in two games following wins over La Salle and Santo Tomas, Ateneo shoots for win No. 3 against a UE team riding the crest of a 63-56 trouncing of UP at the Astrodome Saturday.

The Eagles, trailed by the Tams, Archers and the Falcons on identical 2-1 (win-loss) slates, are fancied to beat the new-look Warriors with a veteran cast of Larry Fonacier, LA Tenorio, JC Intal and Paolo Bugia.

Meanwhile, the Tigers, bunched with the Warriors at No. 5 with 1-1 records, try to join the three-team group at second spot as they tackle the Maroons, winless in two matches, at 2 p.m.

FEU had the chance to gain the solo lead but fell to La Salle Sunday, 54-69.
