SSC, Letran spikers eye semifinals

San Sebastian College and Letran shoot for the last two semifinal berths as they take on Far Eastern U and La Salle, respectively, today at the close of the hotly-disputed, action-packed elimination round of the Shakey’s V-League at the Lyceum Gym.

The Lady Stags, toting a 3-4 (win-loss) slate, are heavily favored to repeat over the also-ran Lady Tams at 5 p.m., hoping to formalize their entry to the crossover semis after being derailed by a 21-25, 26-24, 19-25, 16-25 loss to the Santo Tomas Tigresses last Tuesday.

But though FEU is out of it all with a woeful 1-6 card, the Lady Tams are also expected to spoil the SSC netters’ bid for an outright entry into the next round of this event sponsored by Shakey’s and backed by Accel and Mikasa.

On the other hand, the Lady Knights, at fifth spot with a 2-5 (win-loss) slate, gun for an all-important win against the fancied Lady Archers at 3 p.m.. A victory by Letran would tie the Lady Knights with the Lyceum netters at 3-5, but Letran will take the fourth and last semis berth by virtue of its twin victories over Lyceum in the elims.

The La Salle-Letran duel will be aired "live" on IBC-13. Admission is free.

UST regained the solo lead by beating SSC for a 7-1 card, leaving La Salle at second with a 6-1 mark.

The Lady Archers, however, are a cinch to prevail over the Letran side, whom they beat in the first round, in a bid to claim the top spot heading into the crossover semis.
