RP Seniors Open begins at Pueblo

The Philippine Seniors Amateur Open gets underway beginning today with the country’s golfing elders vying for top honors in various divisions at the Pueblo de Oro Golf and Country Club in Cagayan de Oro City.

But focus will be on the centerpiece championship division where keen competition is seen among defending champion Iggy Clavecilla and a slew of players out to foil his back-to-back title bid. They include 2002 champion Richie Garcia, Caloy Coscolluela, who won in 2001, NGAP president Benny Gopez, Comm. Danny Pizarro, NGAP vice president, and Bing Bunye.

The event, exclusively for players 55 years old and above, will be played under the stroke play format with fabulous prizes staked for the Open champion, the second, the third and fourth placers. Raffle sponsors include PAL, Rowell Golf Club, Rowell Group, WWW Express, Nike golf through Pacsports, Bayer Phils. Levitra and Electrobus Callaway golf.

Also on tap are 36-hole age-group competi-tions (net and gross) in various groups, namely Category II (60-64), Category III (65-69), Super Senior I (70-75) and Super Senior II (75 and above).
