New stars rise in Samsung jungolf

-
Long streaks came to a halt as Tonlits Asistio, Debbie de Villa and Abby Arevalo pulled off big victories in their respective divisions on Thursday to frustrate their fancied rivals in the Samsung Philippine Junior Golf Tour at the Legends course of the Manila Southwoods.

Asistio halted the three-leg skein of Terence Macatangay in boys Class A with a closing even-par 72 despite the swirling winds, winning by 10 strokes over Lawrence Negrido with a 215 aggregate. Macatangay settled for fourth this time.

De Villa posted an even bigger feat when she denied the Superals their bid for a fourth consecutive family sweep in the Tour also given major backing by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and Philippine Airlines as the official carrier.

Debbie saved her best for last, posting a 73 for 228 to stop the erstwhile unbeaten Crystal Faith Superal by seven strokes in girls Class B. Debbie’s elder sister Linnel (83-250) topped girls Class A by two for a family double.

It was Arevalo who made the biggest impact as she ended the six-leg domination of Janella Buen. Arevalo shot a 59-169 for a three-shot victory in the tourney also supported by Golf Depot, Unilever and Gonads.

While the big streaks ended, Paulina Sotto continued her own with her 77-238 lifting the daughter of comedian and TV host to her fourth straight triumph sans Cyna Rodriguez.

Mico Yee and Miguel Tabuena also scored close wins in boys Class B and Class D, respectively. Joining them in the winners roster were Wolen Superal (boys Class C), Cristina Potenciano (girls Class D), AR Ramos (boys Class E), Princess Superal (girls Class E) and Rupert Zaragosa (boys Class F).

The Samsung Jungolf Tour moves over to Riviera next week for the eighth and penultimate leg.
