Macatangay on course for third title in row

Terence Macatangay opened his bid for a third consecutive title in boys Class A with an eight-over 72 on Tuesday to share the first round lead with IG Gutierrez even as the Superal siblings appeared headed for another triple-kill in the Samsung Philippine Jungolf Tour at the Orchard Golf and Country Club.

Macatangay, winner at Mt. Malarayat and Tat Filipinas the past two weeks, and Gutierrez paced the long-hitting Gino Bunyi by one stroke in the tourney serving as the sixth leg of the Tour also given major backing by the International Container Terminal Services, Inc. and Philippine Airlines as the official carrier. Gonads and Unilever are the other sponsors.

The Superals, going for a third version of their family sweep in as many starts, stormed to big leads right on opening day.

Wolen Superal scored a 79 for a seven-shot lead over Carlos Tinio in boys Class C, his elder sister Crystal Faith shooting an 80 to go six up on Debbie de Villa in girls Class B while their younger sister Princess scored an 89 to move up by 10 over Felicia Medalla.

In the other divisions, Erika Salinas was on top in girls Class A, Migo Ochoa paced boys Class B, Paulina Sotto stormed ahead by 10 in girls Class C, Don Martin Fernandez and Katya dela Cruz showed the way in Class D and AR Ramos led the boys Class E category.

Ochoa’s 78 put him three ahead of Jikjik Abdon; Salinas was 14 up on Jennifer Platon after a 98; Sotto, a division winner in last week’s Samsung Tour, was up by 10 over Misha Solano after an 85; Fernandez tallied a 78 to move in front by 19 over Legran Buan while dela Cruz put herself up by five over Sun Mi Huang following an 85.
