Saraza marches into 14-U semis

Kim Ivor Saraza kept his giant-killing way yesterday, marching into the boys 14-under semifinals following a 7-6 (5), 4-6, 6-4 upset win over second seed Patrick Arevalo in the Truflex Age-Group Tennis Championships at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
The 12th-ranked Saraza, an incoming grade 5 student at the Pinahan Elementary School, eliminated fifth seed Mark Balce, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 7-6 (3), in the quarterfinals.
In the other match, top seed Pablo Olivarez II downed No. 8 Juan Carlo Pantua, 6-3, 6-4. In the girls division, second seed Alyssa Labay downed Karen Reyes, 6-0, 6-3, third seed Kristel Samala conquered May Herrera, 6-3, 7-6 (4), and Melody Barraquias scored a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Ma. Angelica Ngo to reach the 18-under semifinals. Fourth seed Trudy Amoranto outlasted Christine Patrimonio, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, to join No. 1 Bambi Zoleta, No. 2 Jessica Agra and No. 3 Nikki Manalo in the 16-under semis.
