San Mig, Shell juniors win in double overtime

It was action as good as that in the pros as San Miguel-Malabon and Shell-Manila worked double-overtime, with the Jr. Turbo Chargers edging the Jr. Beermen, 121-117, yesterday in the 2004 Burlington-PBA Jr. Summer Basketball League.

Ralph Kevin Mendoza scored 22 points and Kevin Alas added 20 for Shell-Manila which clawed back from 20 points down in the first quarter. It was the second win for the Jr. Turbo Chargers who tied idle Talk N Text for the lead in Group B.

The game became a roller coaster ride in the third period before Genel John Javier of Shell-Manila scored the game tying basket 46.5 secs. remaining in regulation to force the first overtime. Shell led, 111-107, with 40 seconds left in the first overtime but couldn’t hold on to it, enabling San Miguel-Malabon to force another extra period with a 5-1 run.

Jett Ortega led the Jr. Beermen with 24 points. San Miguel-Malabon picked up its first defeat in two games.
