Live Match features world’s best boxers

-
The Live Match, an unprecedented show featuring some of the top Filipino boxers at present as well as some of the world’s icons of the past such as Muhammad Ali, Tiger Woods and Michael Jordan, is set May 21.

The Springboard Foundation headed by its chairman John Milne and boxing promoter Edgardo "Boy" Cantada are organizing the black-tie affair.

Micropharma Corp., Johnnie Walker, San Miguel Beer, Ford, Gillette, Jardine Schindler and Lufthansa Cargo are the major sponsors of the event slated at the NBC Tent in Fort Bonifacio.

"This will be a truly memorable and unique event packed with excitement as we feature top-class Filipino boxers and auction rare sporting memorabilia," said Milne, also the event’s chairman.

"Best of all, it’s for an excellent cause as all profits to be generated will go to Philippines-based charities to be selected by the Springboard Foundation committee."

"This is one show to remember as we expect over 600 prominent guests," Cantada said. "It will be an evening of sumptuous fine dining provided by Le Souffle no less, an exciting card and fantastic nostalgia."

The main event will feature Rodel Mayol’s defense of the Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation minimum-flyweight title against world-rated Ernesto Rubillar. The under-card will feature former world champ Gerry Peñalosa, Wyndell Janiola, Benedict Suico and Mercito Gesta.

"Also, there will be an auction of priceless memorabilia that include items from Ali, Woods, Jordan, Pele, Ronaldo, Steve Nash and James Nash," Milne said.
