Montana ends streak of Welcoat

-
Welcoat Paints isn’t invincible after all.

Montana Pawnshop proved this last night when the Jewels scored a stunning 93-68 blowout of the Paint Masters, giving interim coach Ronnie Dojillo a rousing welcome in the PBL Unity Cup at the Pasig Sports Center.

Almost forgotten after losing even to lesser opponents, the Jewels leaned on a splendid double-double performance from Jondan Salvador to hand the Paint Masters their first defeat after a string of five wins while improving their record to 2-4.

With the 6-foot-4 Salvador imposing his will inside the lane, the Jewels could almost do no wrong while the Paint Masters struggled all-game long, falling into poor shot selections and losing the ball one after the other that had them trailing by 17 points early in the third.

Despite the setback, the Paint Masters remained tied for the lead with idle Viva Mineral Water-FEU.

Dojillo credited the team’s resilience, and of course their solid defense for the win which he hoped would be the catalyst the team needed to turn their fortunes around.

Salvador scattered 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as he led the team’s well-balanced attack that saw four other teammates finishing also in double figures.
