Bacolod belles eye clincher

TANAUAN CITY — Powerhouse Bacolod-DepEd bats for the Big League (16-18) girls’ softball championship when it battles International Little League Association of Manila (ILLAM) today in Game 2 of their titular series at the vast Plantacion del Sol field here.

The Big Leaguers from down south, who won the first game Wednesday, 11-1, and need only to prevail in today’s encounter to dethrone their Big City counterparts and earn a trip to the division World Series in Kalamazoo, Michigan this coming August.

Meanwhile, host Tanauan looked formidable in two divisions in the boys’ baseball as two of its teams cruised to their third straight victories in the centerpiece Little League (11-12) and Big League.

Tanauan shellacked Cagayan Province, 5-1, behind a two-hit job of Amber Plaza to remain one of two unbeaten squads in Bracket C of the 11-12 play, a feat matched by their 16-18 townmates, who blasted Quezon City, 8-1.

Bacolod City, likewise, captured its third win in as many outings with a 4-l decision of Zamboanga City for solo leadership of Bracket B of the Little League class.
