All systems go for the URBL tiff

The United Regional Basketball League, designed to develop Filipino skills and bring amateur competition to the countryside, will hold its inaugural tournament in May in Cebu City.
Teams that boast former pro players and provincial talents are expected to make URBL one of the most exciting leagues in the country.
These include Michele Lhuillier of Cebu, Compac-Shineway Ozamiz of Mayor Reynaldo Parojinog, Ben Solon of the General Santos team and Mayor Deo Ouano of Mandaue in the South, the Ilocos Sur Snipers of Gov. D. V. Savellano, Mayor Freddie Tinga Team Forward Taguig, and Nueva Ecija-Konica owned by Edward Joson.
The URBL will be under a stock corporation, making members owners of shares of stock. Negotiations are ongoing with three television stations for the broadcasting rites.
