Hobie Challenge on today

Following the successful staging of the recent Hobie Challenge 5 which ran from Boracay to Club Paradise, the Philippine Hobie Challenge foundation is launching the first Punta Fuego-Fortune Island Regatta this weekend in Nasugbu, Batangas.

More than a dozen hobie cats and lasers are taking part in the new sporting event which will be held for the first time in west Batangas. The regatta is open to hobies, lasers, streakers, sunfish, 470s, 420s, and wayfarers. There will also be a fun run for speedboats and jetskis.

The regatta will run five races including two long runs to and from Fortune Island, two triangle races, and a scenic in-shore race from Terrazas to Punta Fuego hugging the coastlines of Bamboo, Maya-Maya, and Tali beaches. Fortune Island, a watersports haven, is where the sunken Spanish galleon San Diego was discovered.

Socials include a barbecue lunch at Fortune Island, a beach party at Terrazas De Punta Fuego on Saturday night, and an Awards Luncheon on Sunday at the Punta Fuego Clubhouse.

"We are expecting to have quite a competitive fleet with most of the Hobie Challenge veterans eager to test their skills in the open ocean once again," said event organizer Peter Capotosto, Commodore of the Taal Lake Yacht Club in Talisay, Batangas.
