RP teener does rare trick, wins Junior X Games

-
The Philippines’ Anjou Jellicoe Mauricio came through with a spectacular one-of-a-kind big rail trick to bag the gold medal in the final of the skateboard park best trick competitions in the Junior X Games V presented by Toyota in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia over the weekend.

"That was definitely the most difficult trick of the weekend," said Sasha Steinhorst, head judge for World Cup Skateboarding, of Mauricio’s tricky feat where he perfectly landed a feeble grind down the big rail.

The 14-year-old Mauricio’s victory further underscored the Filipinos’ talent in X-Gaming and the win is expected to draw more support to the sport in the country’s bid to crash into the tough world championship in the United States.

In other results, Malaysia’s Shariman Rusdee Morshidi came back after claiming the bicycle stunt title in 2002 and won the gold again this year as well as a trip to the world’s best action sport camp – Woodward Camp.

The overall champion from each sport category won a trip to the renowned Camp.

Inline Skater Rian Arnold and Skateboarder Ben Bodnar, who has won the trip to Woodward Camp for four years in a row, will also join Morshidi to the USA.

Arnold landed two different grind variations to win the gold over Singapore’s Keaton Newsom and Rem Cooney, who settled for silver and bronze medals, respectively.

Meanwhile, the pros take centerstage beginning today with the staging of the Asian X Games VI presented by Toyota at the Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil with over 200 top action sports athletes participating from more than 20 countries and regions.

The ESPN Junior X Games V and the Asian X Games VI presented by Toyota is hosted by the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports and sponsored by Toyota, host Rakan Muda with official partners Adidas, Hotlink, Malaysian Airlines.
