Don Juan Derby makes comeback

Inspired by the success of the first two editions of the "Don Juan Derby," the Klub Don Juan de Manila (KDJM), an emerging force in local horse racing, braces for another explosive staging of the event as it hosts the richest and grandest racing festival for three-year-olds in October at the San Lazaro Leisure Park.

The Don Juan Derby III promises to be another blockbuster with the best gallopers in three-year-old division set to compete in the 2,000-meter classic, which will carry a total prize pot of P2 million.

"True to its promise of reviving the prestige and glamor of the Philippine Derby, KDJM will take this vision even further as we plan to institutionalize the event this year by coming up with an attractive pre-entry scheme for derby hopefuls and, at the same time, provide an opening for the entry of foreign-bred gallopers," said KDJM president Albert Trinidad.

Don Juan Derby hopefuls or prospective candidates may now be nominated in advance by way of pre-entry nomination for weanlings (less than a year old), yearlings and two-year-olds. - Ramon Romualdez
