Aguilar sets out as favorite in season opener

Asia-Pacific champion Glenn Aguilar of the Caltex-Revtex team begins another fruitful journey as he sets out as the overwhelming favorite in the season-opening Philippine National Motocross Championship Saturday at the Batangas Provincial Sports Complex, Bolbok, Sta. Rita, Batangas City.

The 27-year-old Aguilar is coming off his most successful year in motocross. Last season, Aguilar became the first and only Filipino to have ever won the Asian FIM crown–the region’s most prestigious title.

Aguilar also clinched a record seventh National Rider of the Year award given by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA). His achievements have earned him a citation from the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA).

He will banner a Revtex team, also composed of Bebet dela Cruz, Jerry Beech, Johnny Garcia, Alvin Beech, Eric Mitra, Brian Villarde, Tony Juanitas and wonder boy Kenneth San Andres.

"The year 2003 was a fruitful one not just for me but for the entire Caltex organization," said Aguilar, who is also backed by Oakley, No Fear, HJC Helmets, Pro Grip, Renthal, Sidi Boots and Atoy Bodykit. "I hope that the new year won’t be a different one."

The event, also dubbed as the second Mayor’s Cup National Motocross Championship, is being sanctioned by NAMSSA, headed by Ken Falco, in cooperation with Mayor Eddie Dimacuha of Batangas City.
