Bong Coo MVP Cup draws OFW bowlers from 10 countries

Balikbayan bowlers from 10 countries are seeing action in the Bong Coo MVP Cup which fired off yesterday at the Green Valley Country Club Bowling Center in Pasig.

Bowlers vacationing from their duties in Brunei, Malaysia, Guam, California, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Hong Kong and Singapore are disputing the top awards in the event hosted by the Filipino bowlers of UAE.

The tourney in honor of Bong Coo, one of the country’s greatest bowlers, also serves as the ABS-CBN OFW Balikbayan Worldwide Bowling Tournament.

Up for grabs are prizes amounting to P200,000 with the champion receiving the lion’s share of P100,000 plus a trophy. The runner-up gets P50,000 in cash and a trophy, third placer P25,000 and a trophy, fourth P15,000 and a medal, fifth P10,000 and a medal while the sixth to 10th finishers get P5,000 each and a medal.

Special awards include P10,000 and a trophy to the first perfect game, P3,000 and trophy to the High Series during the qualifying game and P2,000 and trophy to the High Game.

Yesterday’s opening ceremonies were graced by FIQ president-elect Steve Hontiveros who delivered an inspirational talk and was later joined by Coo in making the ceremonial roll.

The organizing committee is headed by Ver Lacuarta as chair, Teddy Yu as vice-chair, Irene Serrano treasurer, Art Oberio tournament director, Ronnie Fabian (sponsorship) and Ariel Serrano (administrator). Dante Herras, PICPA-Dubai president, is official tabulator.
