Ilusorio golf to unravel in BCC

A strong field of players is raring to wage battle in the forthcoming fourth Nanoy Ilusorio Golf Cup set Dec. 29 in Baguio City.
Site of the one-day golf tournament will be the short but rolling and tricky par-61 Baguio Country Club (BCC) golf course, one of the oldest clubs in the country which will be celebrating its centennial year in 2005.
"The tournament is held in honor of the late Potenciano "Nanoy" Ilusorio, BCC president emeritus and chairman for Life," said lawyer Federico Agacaoili, president of BCC.
"The tournament was conceived to pay tribute to Ilusorio a sportsman, a leader and a visionary, whose heart and ideals have touched lives of countless people," he added.
Anthony de Leon, BCC general manager said: "The tournament is a tribute to Nanoy. He is our No. 1 supporter, not only in golf but in almost all fields of sports and also in the field of commerce. The public and the corporate world are witnesses to it."
"He (Nanoy) believed in the capability of every Filipino in attaining the best and by organizing this event, participants are encouraged to demonstrate their sporting talents."
De Leon, also the tournament chairman said, club members and their invited guests will see action in the mens and womens divisions, which are classified into classes A, B and C. Added attraction will be the competition in the Guest Division.
"In line with the clubs commitment to develop the golfing skills of the youth and as a contribution to the countrys sports program, a dependents division has been added," added De Leon.
They are classified into class A (18 years old and above), class B (15-17 years old), class C (12-14 years old) and class D (11 years old and below.)
The medal play scoring format will be used in the tournament. Highlighting the event will be selection of the clubs champion, which will be chosen based on the overall lowest gross score .
Among the early elite Clubs Champion were Baguio Citys representative lawyer Mauricio Domogan, lawyer Octaviano Espiritu and businessman Raffy Garcia.
Lawyer Luis Sison, BCCs sports and grounds chairman, was the back-to-back champion in Class A during the first two stagings of the tournament. Alfonso Marcelo topped the third edition.
Cha Diciano, Sonia Bruce and Nanette Filler were among the champions in the womens class A division.
