Agojo back in winning form, cops X’mas crown

-
Multi-titled Jayvie Agojo made a triumphant return to the competitive fairways winning the girls Class A crown with a three-over-par 75 round in the recent Nike Jungolf Christmas Tournament at the tough Couples course of the Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite.

Agojo, who left the game for three months after her long US campaign to concentrate on her studies at OB Montessori, beat club bet Remijin Camping by three strokes with Katrina Gonzales placing third after an 85.

Nonoy Negrido, winner of the Fil-Am individual title, scored a 75 for a five-shot win over Justin Tambunting and IG Gutierrez in boys Class A in the tourney sponsored by Nike through PacSports Phils.

Miko Yee and Bambi dela Paz prevailed in Class B, Sung Bi Yoon and Mia Piccio won in Class C and Bino dela Paz and Ma-an Legaspi topped Class D.

Over at the executive course of Riviera, AR Ramos upset the favorites to split Class E honors with Princess Superal. The special division trophies for 6-and-under went to Justin Dy and Dana Gonzales.

The 18-hole Nike event is part of the holiday break series of the Samsung Jungolf Tour organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines. The jungolfers also played the Alabang Invitational yesterday and a selection will represent the country in the Philippines-Japan Friendship Meet Jan. 5-6 at Tagaytay Midlands.

Samsung president and CEO Sang Youl Eom and Airlift Asia president Rico Brizuela whose companies are major supporters of the jungolf program graced the occasion together with Jungolf officials led by their president Gerry Handog.

Yee’s 77 put him two strokes up on Korean Lee Ho In and three ahead of Mikee Camitoc while dela Paz scored a 91 then nipped Debbie de Villa in the countback for the top plum.

Sung finished seven up on Moshe Baldo with an 81 while Wolen Superal, playing a new division after an unbeaten run in Class D last year, settled for third with a 91. Piccio (78) got back at Crystal Superal (83) after losing their Young Guns duel.

Dela Paz was another countback winner after archrival Miguel Tabuena squandered an early lead with a back nine collapse. Legaspi was unchallenged, beating Cristina Potenciano by 14.
