Suarez leads RP cast in Asian bowling

Fresh from his stirring victory in the World Cup, Christian Jan (CJ) Suarez gets going again beginning tomorrow, this time spearheading the country’s bid in the Aviva Asian Bowling Tour in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Focus will surely be on the 24-year-old Suarez, who became only the fourth Filipino to win the World Cup last week in Honduras. He will also be trying to win it back-to-back for the Philippines after Purvis Granger ruled the Manila leg last June 15.

Granger will also be in the fold but Suarez will surely take much of the spotlight owing to his World Cup feat together with Liza del Rosario in the distaff side. Del Rosario teamed up with Liza Clutario and Cecilia Yap to win Asia’s first gold in the recent world tenpin championships in Malaysia.

The top 14 players from the Masters finals of the first Indonesia International Open Championships are seeing action in the two-day event which serves as the fourth leg of the six-stage series culminating in the Grand Slam Finals in Singapore early next year.

Others seeing action are Asian Games gold medallist Remy Ong of Singapore, Yannaphom Larpapharat of Thailand, Andrew Frawley of Australia, Sarah Yap, Wendy Chai, Sharon Chai and Choy Poh Lai.

The Aviva Asian Bowling Tour provides the first regional ranking system for bowlers. The Tour also features $226,000 in prize money. The Tour is proudly brought to you by Aviva (previously known as CGU), one of the largest insurance companies in the world, and sanctioned by the Asian Bowling Federation and each country’s bowling association. The Singapore Tourism Board is the official partner. Official Magazine is the Asian Bowling Digest. The event is supported by Royal Selangor and organized by ESPN STAR Sports.
