Juvic Pagunsan hopes to dish out the same solid game he churned out in topping the Riviera Open recently as he returns home to Bacolod to banner the championship division cast in the fourth leg of the Samsung Amateur Tour and Putting Challenge at the Negros Occidental Golf and Country Club course on Sept. 27-28.
Some of his childhood friends who have improved their skills while working as caddies at the course also known as Marapara will be there to challenge him. But based on his recent games, Pagunsan will be very hard to beat.
Pagunsan, who had routed the Riviera Amateur field by seven shots after helping the Philippines achieve a fifth place finish in the Nomura Cup, is seen as the player who can stop the spate of tight finishes in the centerpiece division of the Samsung series.
The last two legs of the series had been disputed via playoffs with Marc Lopez winning in Davao and Tristan Tabanas prevailing in Cagayan de Oro. One player who could give Pagunsan a run for his money is Iggy Clavecilla, the reigning national seniors champion who will join the event for the first time.
Like the scratch players, the field in Class A, Class B and Class C in the mens division and the Class A and Class B battles for ladies will be vying for the Samsung appliances at stake for the top three finishers.
Co-sponsoring the second season of the Samsung Tour are Marios Restaurant, Wilson, Gatorade, Tokyo Tokyo, Microtel, Custom Clubmakers and Dunlop Golf with radio stations Killer Bee, Citylite 88.3, Wave 89.1, Magic 89.9, 99.5 RT and 103.5 K-Lite as official media partners.
