Natividad, Ang cop JVC badminton jr. crowns

-
Mark Natividad and Kelvin Ang reigned supreme in the boys’ events while Raquel Guerrero and Janina Paredes lorded it over in the girls’ side of the juniors category at the close of the JVC Open Badminton Championships at the Glorietta Activity Center in Makati over the weekend.

Natividad outduelled doubles partner Marlon Villarin, 15-4, 15-2, to pocket the 18-under plum while Ang thumped Kevin Dalisay, 15-2, 15-2, to cop the 14-under diadem in the event which featured the country’s future superstars in the sport which has taken the country by storm the last few years.

Guerrero likewise posted a straight-game victory over Chona Rivera, 11-4, 11-6, to capture the 18-under crown in the girls’ side while Paredes went through some anxious moments in the first game against Karyn Velez before pulling through, 13-12, 11-0, for the 14-under title.

Natividad and Guerrero won P6,000 and a GenTxt mobile phone each for their feats while Ang and Paredes received over P270,000 worth of educational plan from Pioneer Life.

But Natividad failed to annex the doubles crown in the 18-under class as his teamup with Villarin took a heartbreaker of a loss from the Michael Paclibar-Wilmer Frias tandem, 17-16, 17-15.

Natividad, however, partnered with Paula Obanana to claim the mixed doubles crown via a 15-4, 15-9 romp over Michael Paclibar and Chona Rivera.

The Guerrero siblings — Rachel and Raquel — won the girls’ doubles title with a 15-3, 15-3 victory over the Francesca Bermejo-Apples Alejo tandem in the annual event staged by the IMG and backed by Pioneer Insurance, Gosen, Alaska Milk Corp., GenTxt, Tokyo Tokyo, Accel, Ayala Center, I-Ayala, Rudy Project, K-Lite 103.5 and The STAR.

Ang scored a twin victory in the event sponsored by electronics giant JVC for the third straight year by winning the doubles’ plum in the 14-under class as he teamed up with Kevin Dalisay to beat the Patrique Magnaye-Peter Magnaye tandem, 15-7, 15-9.

Janina Paredes and Karyn Velez won the girls doubles crown with a 15-2, 15-1 rout over Carla Lizardo and Liza Encarnacion, then Paredes teamed up with Antonio Gadi to pocket the mixed doubles down with a 15-3, 15-5 romp over Ramon Guerrero and Encarnacion.
