Bata seals rematch vs Williams; Django falls

Efren "Bata" Reyes stayed unbeaten to forge a rematch with Big Apple 9-ball Challenge tormentor Charlie Williams in the semifinal round of the second Annual Gabriel’s Las Vegas 9-ball Open at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada Thursday.

Reyes beat Francisco Hernandez, 10-8, in the Last 16 then foiled Danny Harriman, 10-7, in the quarterfinals to gain a chance to avenge his loss to Williams in last Sunday’s finals of the New York tourney.

Williams disposed of Nick Varner, 10-8, and Niels Feijen, 10-4, to advance to the next round.

But while Reyes advanced, compatriot and buddy Francisco "Django" Bustamante, winner of the recent International Challenge to Champions, fell by the wayside when he absorbed a 7-10 loss to Tony Robles in their Last 16 duel.

But Robles failed to pull through in the next round and took an 8-10 setback from Max Eberle, who will be facing veteran Johnny Archer in their own side of the semis duel.

Archer defeated reigning world 9-ball champion Thorsten Hohmann, 10-6.
