PCCr stops Holy Child in Nike caging

Philippine College of Criminology stunned fancied Holy Child School of Davao, 31-25, over the weekend to top the Nike Battleground Asia National Finals at the Festival Mall in Alabang.

Rodel Ranises, a national youth team mainstay who is formerly of Holy Child, was the source of strenght for the Junior Enforcers although it was Jhay Mar Marte who delivered the blows in the final half of two eight-minute periods.

PCCr wound up with the top purse amounting to P70,000 worth of Nike items plus the beautiful trophy from Nike while Holy Child, which could not duplicate its 21-19 triumph in the five-game elims, went home with a P50,000 worth of Nike gift certificates.

Pampanga High School, for its part, walloped Letran, 22-15, to clinch third place and bag the P20,000 Nike gift checks.

Slam Nation, a French-based world touring slam dunkers, treated fans, guests and bystanders alike with their rim-rattling acrobatic slam dunks highlighted by choreographed performance typical of the Harlem Globe Trotters.

Basketball stars like Purefoods’ Alvin Patrimonio, Shell’s Ronald Tubid and Christian Calaguio, San Beda’s Arjun Cordero and Far Eastern University Mark Isip were also there to sign authographs.

Also gracing the occasion were Philippine Sports commissioner William "Butch" Ramirez and former PBA coach Chito Narvasa. — Joey Villar
