CARMONA, Cavite Five superbly-conditioned thoroughbreds piloted by the best jockeys in the land slug it out at the San Lazaro Leisure Park here today as the highlight of a long racing weekthe second running of the 2003 Philracom Imported Stakes seriesis run this afternoon.
Sprinter Buena Sera, a four-year-old bay filly under Dominador Borbe Jr., and three other Australian-born gallopers together with a noted stayer from New Zealand vie for the guaranteed first place purse of P270,000 and the distinction of being a leg winner of the prestigious series.
Post time is at 4:20 p.m. and along with Buena Sera, another four-year-old filly, Audreys Savings, is expected to corner a huge chunk of the betting pool.
The days program actually offers two stakes races, the other being the Congressman Eric Singson Cup to be run later in the afternoon with eight local chargers led by Hermie Esguerras Kayang Kaya in the line-up.
The Imported Stakes race is spread over 1,400 meters and Buena Sera is expected to find this to her liking, more so after posting an overpowering win in wire-to-wire fashion over a huge 11-horse field in a regular race at the start of the month over the same distance in one-minute and 27 seconds.
That victory by Buena Sera was her first in what was her only run in this world-class racing facility being developed by the Manila Jockey Club. She has a total of three wins and five second place finishes in 12 starts. Ramon Romualdez
