Lyonnais strong in the long haul

Lyonnais found the long, punishing 1,800-meter race to his liking as the noted stayer ruled the second Mayor Jejomar Binay Cup with plenty to spare at the Santa Ana Park yesterday.
With jockey Elpidio Aguila settling his mount in third place, Lyonnais watched stablemate Ouzo battle Hazmoore in a neck-and-neck duel majority of the race then put on his vaunted finishing kick at the top of the stretch before galloping home to a five-length victory worth P400,000 for owner Joseph Dyhengco.
Catwalk Pia took the runner-up honors worth P100,000 while Perfect Storm finished behind Ouzo to claim third place and the P50,000 purse.
Lyonnais turned in a 1:54.8 clocking.
Earlier, Success Story nipped Security Master in their own duel for the PCSO Grand Championship, winning by a head and pocketing the top P600,000 purse. R. Romualdez
