Arellano rules PEACE 2003 leg

Engineer Robert Arellano nipped businessman Belsar Valencia in the tiebreak to top the Elite section, while Davao businessman James Infiesto won all his five games to rule the Classic section in the third leg of the 2003 Philippine Executive Active Chess Express or PEACE 2003 held Saturday at the Land Bank Plaza in Malate, Manila.

Arellano and Valencia scored four points each in the one day five-round event organized by the Active Chess Center of Asia Inc. (ACCA) with the support of Belgosa Media Systems and Land Bank.

Other results in the Elite section saw Noel Garcia and Tyrone Guya of Nippon Life sharing third-fourth places with identical three points. Alone at fifth was dentist Alfredo Paez with 2.5 points.

Elsewhere in the Classic section, a triple tie for second ensued among Rey Reyes, Abraham Dalagan and Ramil Acosta with four points each. Bunched at fifth-eighth spots with 3.5 points apiece were Richard Villaseran, Rolando Gangozo, Raul Villate and Renier Ternura.

Also figuring prominently in the Classic section with three points each were Salvador Tardecilla, Benizon Tan, Alejandro Depano, Jovanny Chua and Armel Abucejo.
