Beach volley gets big boost from backers

Beach volleyball in the country never had it this good.

Officials behind the ongoing PSA-Petron Ladies Beach Volleyball Tournament and the recently-concluded Nestea Beach Volleyball meet yesterday agreed to lend each other hand in a bid to further boost the growing popularity of the sport here.

"Everyone that promotes beach volleyball is welcome. The more, the merrier," said former PSC commissioner Tisha Abundo, executive director of the organizing Voltz Management Group which is promoting the beach volleyball event for ladies whose second leg will be held at the Island Cove Resort and leisure Park next week.

Abundo was with Emmy Buccat of Speedo in yesterday’s PSA Forum at the Manila Pavilion, where Nestle’s Ed Tamayo and Johann Tamphro, the men responsible for the successful staging of the seventh Nestea Beach Volleyball finals held in Boracay last month, also guested.

Although they cater two different audiences-the Nestea beach volley being a meet for college schools nationwide compared to Petron’s all-ladies event-both parties agreed that they can be of help to one another.

Nestle even tinkered on the possibility of supporting Abundo in her newest endeavor.
