Rosales-Ignacio paces Eagle Ridge tourney

The tandems of Roberto Rosales-Goody Ignacio and Salvador Almagro-Benedict Gulapa tallied 131 points for two days to become the teams to beat for the remaining players set to play their final rounds today in the third Eagle Ridge Invitational, the member-guest tournament of the country’s biggest golf complex in Gen. Trias, Cavite.

Rosales, the PNP provincial director for Cavite, and Ignacio had 67-64 to emerge as the Class B leaders while Almagro-Gulapa grabbed the Class C leadership also with their rounds of 67-64 at the Dye and Faldo courses of Eagle Ridge.

The all-Korean partnership of Oh Kwang Taek and Kim Sun Ho had 66 and 64 points, respectively, to pull ahead in Class A with their 130.

Jeric Ang, meanwhile, scored a hole-in-one on the eighth hole of the Dye course to highlight the first day action. Ang made his ace Friday with a Ping 7-iron and a Maxfli ball while in the company of Oliver Gan, Ben del Rosario and Errol Dy. He, however, failed to bag the jackpot prize, a Ford Ranger, which was staked in another hole of the Dye (17th).

Impressive scoring marked the first day action of the three-day event supported by Callaway, Ford-Edsa and Alsons Insurance as major sponsors. GG&A Club Development, Inc., Microtel-Eagle Ridge, Aqua Dyne Drilling, Inc., G-Shop, Inc., Sta. Lucia Golf Cart Corp., JRICO Trade Investment and Mandarin Hotel are the other sponsors.

All teams which played Friday and Saturday shift courses when the final round is played today (Sunday, May 25) with the awarding ceremonies to be held right after at the spanking main clubhouse of Eagle Ridge. Shotgun tee-off is 10:30 a.m.
