The Swift Pony Invitational tournament, featuring 27 baseball and softball teams for boys and girls with ages ranging from 8 to 18, is in full blast with teams from Metro Manila, Laguna, Batangas and Bulacan vying for top honors at Alabang Country Club.
The tournament is hosted this year by the Alabang Baseball and Softball Club headed by Dito Borromeo in cooperation with the Philippine TOT Baseball Foundation led by Boy Tingzon. The Swift-sponsored Pony Invitational featured some of the best teams from the region, and will be the basis for fielding national team to the Pony World Championships in the various categories.
On hand for the opening ceremonies was RFM executive Rally Martinez, who represented RFM president and CEO Joey Concepcion III. Martinez said the tournament sponsorship was part of RFMs vision to continually support youth sports development starting from the grassroots level.
The event was preceded by the highly-successful staging of the Swift Tournament of Champions in cooperation with the International Little League of Manila (ILLAM).
This resulted to ILLAM fielding three teams in various divisions in the Regional Little League Finals to be held in the Northern Marianas Islands after winning the National Tournaments in those divisions.
