Purefoods fights for life vs FedEx

Purefoods fights for dear life while FedEx already looks forward to an outright seat in the Asian Invitationals as the two teams clash in a crucial match in the Samsung PBA All-Filipino Cup eliminations today at the Philsports Arena.

San Miguel Beer and Coca-Cola collide in the other match in the day’s doubleheader at Pasig complex with the two teams, like FedEx, seeking early entry into the mid-season invitational tourney.

The Express, the Beermen and the Tigers are tied at third place in the overall standings with identical 8-6 win-loss records while the Hotdogs are at the tail-end of the chart in Group A with a 5-10 card.

Despite having their backs against the wall, the Hotdogs, however, are not about to throw in the towel.s

"We’re in a must-win situation tapos kailangan pa naming magdasal at least na one of our groupmates hindi na manalo. It’s a tall order pero susubukan pa rin naming makalusot. We’ll take it one game at a time," said Purefoods coach Gregorio.

Purefoods is actually in danger of being out after the eliminations for the third straight conference.

Gregorio and the team management have been aware of the predicament the team is right now and this may prompt a re-evaluation of their lineup after the tournament.

"We’ll take a closer look at the problem. . . . Why are we injured most of the time?" Gregorio said.

The Hotdogs have been playing injured from the start of the season with Andy Seigle having a sore back, Rey Evangelista and Boyet Fernandez battered knees, Richard Yee out because of an ACL injury and Chris Cantonjos sitting out their last five games with a sore ankle.
