Gutierrez captures first title; Superal super to the end

-
Wolen Juan Superal completed another all rounds-under-par stint by closing out with a four-under 68 yesterday to rule the Class D division for the sixth straight time even as IG Gutierrez finally picked up his first win in the Samsung Jungolf Tour at the Sherwood Hills Golf Club course.

Superal won a tournament with three straight sub-par rounds for the second straight week after a record-breaking performance in the previous leg at the Orchard’s Player course where he set the 18-, 36- and 54-hole marks.

Together with his earlier rounds of 69 and 71, Superal finished with a 208 with Christian Ricohermoso settling for the runner-up trophy after a 78 for 238 in this fifth stop of the summer circuit backed chiefly by Samsung Electronics Philippines, Inc.

Gutierrez grabbed a piece of the limelight too focused on Arevalo the past few weeks when he fired another 72 to prevail by six over Allan Guy (76-226) and by 10 over Miko Yee (75-230) in boys Class B.

The favorites held sway in the other divisions as Justin Tambunting (boys Class A), Linnel de Villa (girls Class B), Jik Jik Abdon (boys Class C), Crystal Faith Superal (girls Class C), Dottie Ardina (girls Class D), Kristina Potenciano (girls Class E) and Bino dela Paz (boys Class E) posted easy victories.

Sang Youl Eom, president of Samsung Philippines, and Jungolf president Gerry Handog awarded the trophies to the top finishers.

The other major sponsors of the event are Philippine Airlines, Airlift Asia, Exito Mfg., Global Lighting and Air Liquide, Phils. Pisanti Golf, Bellevue Manila, Third World Eximport, HBW Enterprises, MCCI Corp. and BF Technology are minor sponsors.
