Christine Delfin copped her third gold medal yesterday to become the first athlete to barge into the elite triple gold medal winners club in Day 2 of the second Batang QC Olympics at the Amoranto Sports Complex in Quezon City.
A Batang Pinoy veteran, Delfin ran her way to a third gold medal in the girls 800-m run for 13-15 years old with a time of 2:42.14, a class above St. Martin de Paduas Joana Aquino (2:43.46) and Bagong Silangans Charo Spanola (3:41.37).
Delfins first two gold medals came from the 400 meters and 1,500 meters, both coming in Day 1 of this month-long event for QC residents nine to 21 years old organized by Quezon City Mayor Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and Vice Mayor Herbert Bautista.
In the 400 meters, Delfin registered a time of 1:00.59, leaving SMDPs Jasmin Olalia (1:01.12) and E. Rodriguez Geralyn Abata (2:02.55) on her wake while she was unopposed in the long distance race, timing in 6:16.41.
While Delfin continued to pile up her winnings, opening day co-leader Batasan Hills kept on striking the gold with three more golden triumphs yesterday that hiked its total to eight, two more than closest pursuer St. Martin de Padua (SMDP).
