Wolen Juan Superal barely missed setting a record when he could only match par 72 yesterday in the final round on the way to another masterful romp in Class D of the Samsung Jungolf Tour at the Faldo course of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Gen. Trias, Cavite.
Already assured of victory with a huge double-digit lead before he teed off, the chubby 10-year-old son of a teaching pro squandered his bid for a third straight sub-par score after going bogey-par-double bogey in his last three holes.
Still, Superal ended up winning his third straight title in the Tour by 39 strokes over Migs Arevalo with a 210 aggregate for 54 holes in the event also backed by Philippine Airlines, Airlift Asia, Global Lighting, Air Liquide and Exito Mfg. Wilson is the equipment sponsor.
There was a lot more excitement in girls Class C where Debbie de Villa outlasted Bambi Dela Paz to win by one.
De Villa, one of three sisters playing in the circuit, pounced on a big collapse by Dela Paz on the ninth hole where the latter took a double par then played steady coming home to escape with the victory.
De Villa scored a 92 while dela Paz closed out with a 93 for 268 and 269 totals, respectively.
The other winners were Aran Olea and Remijin Camping in Calss A, Miko Yee and Geleen Handog in Class B, Bren Sumampong in boys Class C, Isabela Pineda in girls Class D and Bino dela Paz and Sun Mi Huang in Class E.
The Tour takes a Holy Week break before the jungolfers play the seasons biggest leg, next weeks Junior World qualifying at Southwoods and Riviera.
Oleas 80-243 gave him a four shot win over Nonoy Negrido, Campings 82-246 put her far ahead of Pauline Ponciano (99-298), Sumampong (87-258) finished two up on Anelo Asistio (90-260) and Pineda won by eight over Farah Monsaive with a 110-339.
Bino dela Paz (81-249) and Sun, daughter of a Korean expat, took their divisions with plenty to spare.
Yee rallied with an 81-238 to beat the fancied Tonton Asistio by three while Handog turned in her best score in three days of 86 for 271 and the biggest winning margin in the tourney of 104 strokes.
