Sta. Lucia launches sports program today

The country’s top officials will join bigwigs of real estate giant Sta. Lucia Realty and Development Corporation in today’s launching of the Sta. Lucia Community Sports Program, a series of clinics aimed at boosting efforts of producing a fresh breed of athletes.

Rep. Monico Puentebella, chair of the House committee on Youth and Sports, together with Philippine Sports Commission chair Eric Buhain and Philippine Olympic Committee president Celso Dayrit will grace the affair at the TGI Friday’s at the Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall.

The family of Sta. Lucia-developed subdivisions which will serve as venues for a series of clinics covering basketball, swimming, tennis and badminton will be represented by SLR president Exequiel Robles and executive vice president Vicente Santos.

Joining them are the four noted gurus who will be handling the courses for various skill levels under the program. The sports camps will be opened not just to village residents but to all those living within the area.

Sportsman Nic Jorge is bringing his multi-awarded BEST clinics to the clubhouses, Olympian Ral Rosario will impart his vast knowledge of swimming techniques, Danny So shares his badminton expertise to a broader audience and Van Der Meer Academy graduate Nani Jimenez is out to unveil his tennis philosophy.

There will be 30 subdivisions all over Luzon which will host the sports clinics with a revolving schedule all throughout the summer.Convinced that the program can produce nothing but positive results for local sports, Head-Penn, Talbot-Torro badminton equipment and Swans Swimming equipment through its local distributor Dynamic Sports Corp. and Chris Sports Plaza as well as Pisanti have agreed to come in as sponsors.

Interested parties may register at all Chris Sports Plaza outlets, the Milo Best Center office (372-3065/66), Nani Jimenez Sports Tennis Professionals (922-0922/922-1842) and all host venues. Important details can also be obtained from the said venues.

Various sectors foresee the program to gradually transform into an intra and inter-village competition and eventually of a nationwide scope. The use of the existing infrastructure of Sta. Lucia community clubhouses can also play a crucial role in the promotion of various sports.

Some of the subdivisions involved are Britanny/Neopolitan in Mindanao Ave., North Fairview, Vista Real Classica in Matandang Balara, Quezon City, Vermont Park (Antipolo), Glenwood Park (Calamba) and Lipa Royale Estates (Batangas).
