Villareal-Dela Rosa captures Alabang’s Mango Tee

Ernest Villareal and his guest partner Danny dela Rosa bucked the windy conditions in their afternoon final round to post 78 net points and capture top honors in the 19th Mango Tee, the member-guest invitational of the Alabang Country Club, over the weekend.

Counting their 75 in the first round, Villareal-Dela Rosa aggregated a respectable net 9-under 153, finishing four strokes ahead of Tony Arguelles-Mario Badillo duo and the rest of the 256 teams that saw action in the tourney presented by Smart Communications.

The coveted low gross plum went to Iggy Clavecilla and Jojo Guingona with their combined 17-over 127 for two days.

Alex Capanza and Junnie Bagalso, leaders in the first round, took a nosedive on final day with their 78-58-136 good enough to give them the Class D crown.

Arguelles-Badillo settled for the Class C trophy, Raffy Mapua-Sito Recto won Class A and Carlo Ching-Sonny Pangilinan took Class B to complete the 2003 batch of winners for the Mango Tee which also had Mitsubishi Motors Philippines, Inc., Taylor Made, Makati Skyline, Standard Chartered Bank and Turf Company as the other major sponsors and Fedex, Pepsi Cola and Security Bank-Diners as premium hole sponsors.

Ric dela Torre went home with the biggest prize, a Yamaha cart courtesy of Kart Plaza Manufacturing, he won for a hole-in-one feat on the 12th hole on Feb. 8. Hole sponsors are Nestle, Acro Industrial, BeneficialPNB Life Insurance, Citra, Cocolife/Direct Link, Directories Phils., Gainers Marketing, GG&A Club Shares, Inc., Golforce Inc., Green Cross, Golfers Clubshares, Inc., Haji Andi Tabusalla, Hyundai Ortigas, Joseph Rice Mill, Maisog Engineering, Natropin, Pilipinas Shell, Prudential Life, Supreme Construction, SRC, Tanduay, T&C Construction, The Bellevue Manila, WG&A and YKK Zipper Phils. with the special participation of Ciolo Mondo, Hanson So, Asian Imex and the Inquirer Golf Monthly.

Mapua-Recto won by eight strokes over Babes Guilatco and Jacky Arellano with their 145, Ching-Pangilinan prevailed by two over Leo Villanueva-Bobby Iñigo with their 144, Arguelles-Badillo edged Boy Villareal-Bobby Leonor by a stroke and Capanza-Bagalso wound up five ahead of Cesar Velasco-Art Ampaya in their divisions.
