PBL sees 11 teams vying in 2003 season

The number of participating teams in the coming PBL season could swell to 11 with the possible entry of Cebu-based General Milling Corp.

GMC team manager Albert Tan has told PBL Commissioner Chino Trinidad in the last CBF-PBL Dual Meet in Cebu but is awaiting word from the company’s advertising executives if they’ll push through with the plan or not.

The two other teams reportedly eyeing entry in the PBL are Nutrilicious, which will take over the franchise of Shark Energy Drink, and Viva Mineral Water of San Miguel Corp., which may bring the core of FEU Tamaraws as part of its program for the UAAP.

"We’re happy that many companies now are inspired to pour their support to the PBL, and this is an indication and proof of the success of our programs and thrusts," said Trinidad.

"The PBL Board will still have to meet and tackle the issue if we’ll expand to a maximum of 12 teams as we look forward to 20 years and beyond," he added.

GMC is currently the defending champion of the Cebu Basketball Federation Charter Cup.
